St. James's Park
St. James's Park is a green oasis just 3 minutes
from Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, Buckingham
Palace, and Whitehall. The oldest of the royal
parks, St. James's was a favourite hunting ground
of Henry VIII, before being landscaped by Nash in
the 1820's and opened to the public.
Today, the park is a popular spot to enjoy the sun
and to escape the crowds of central London. Host to
a range of birdlife - swans, geese, ducks, and even
a pelican or two - the central man-made lake is the
focal-point of the park. From the central bridge
there are impressive views towards Buckingham Palace
and back towards Horse Guards.
