Shakespeare's Globe Theatre
Tickets to the summer season at Shakespeare's
Globe Theatre always sell fast, and this authentic
recreation of the original Bankside theatre has become
one of London's premier attractions in recent years.
The original Globe Theatre was located in what was
the 'red light district' of sixteenth century London,
and played host to the premiere of a number of Shakespeare's
plays. Open to the elements and all classes of citizen,
a visit to the Elizabethan playhouse was by all accounts
a lively affair, and it can be so today as well.
The faithful reconstruction of the original Globe
was an internationally-sponsored project, finally
completed in 1997. Performances of Shakespearean
classics can be attended throughout summer, with
tours available year round.
Highlights of a trip to the Globe include:
The stunning reproduction of the theatre
itself.
Open air performances in the summer.
The video history and exhibition recounting
the history of the Globe and other Elizabethan theatres.
