Pubs
The British Pub (of which there are 70,000) is world
famous, and remains an enduring focal point of
community life. In London alone there are several
thousand pubs, wine bars, and 'gastropubs' to
choose from - historic
pubs of character that have been an integral part
of the city, modern pubs and chain outlets with all
the facilities, and a fair number of dingy and forgettable
establishments as well.
At their best, the British pub is a welcoming
place to relax, enjoy good food, and have a few beers
