Best of the Web
The Web is of course a great source of information,
but can often be a time-consuming and frustrating
way to find what you are looking for. Because of this,
we've decided to share some of our favourite websites
with you across a range of subjects and services.
We hope you enjoy exploring these sites.
Antipodeans In Britain
Of course we hope that eBigOE is your Antipodean
website of choice, but we believe that the best of
the rest is the TNT
website. KEA
Recruitment is a very good starting point
for Kiwis looking to organise work in the UK or further
afield.
Britain
There are some great resources on Britain - the lifestyle,
attractions, and people. Visit
Britain is the very good official tourist
site, but for something a bit different you should
try This
Is England, a web radio site that has a number
of audio programmes celebrating England's diversity.
Britain's heritage is protected by the National
Trust and English
Heritage - both of which have excellent sites,
and the former has holiday cottages in great locations
that can be booked.
City Breaks
London makes a great base to explore the major cities
in the UK and Europe. Our Destinations
page provides details - including links - for many
of these.
However, sites (and destinations) well worth checking
out include: Visit
Copenhagen, Prague
iGuide, and Vienna.
The Eurostar
website also offers good deals for travel to Paris
and Brussels.
Food
If you're looking for comprehensive restaurant information,
check out the Dine
Out site. Cookery
Online is a great resource for budding Jamie
Oliver's, and seafood lovers will want to check out
the guru himself - Rick
Stein. A newsletter, recipes, and competitions
are available at the Wagamama
restaurant chain site.
Gifts
Buying for friends or relatives back home? If so,
check out our
New Zealand, Australian,
and South
African gift pages for ideas. If you
want a great Kiwi gift for someone anywhere in the
world, then thekiwistore.com
should be your first stop.
If you're still stuck for ideas, you can do worse
than visit Surprise
Your Woman, Boys
Stuff, Groovy
Chocolate, or Kitsch
(for something a bit 'different').
If the budget is a bit tight or you'd rather just
send a message, the excellent (and free) Talking
Toons has a wide range of animated cards to
choose from.
Health
There are a lot of health and medical websites out
there, including the encyclopedic NHS
portal. If you want some feedback, Health
In Focus covers more general health issues.
Gender-specific sites worth a look include Women's
Health and Male
Health.
London
The best London websites include This
Is London, Timeout,
and London
Town. Don't forget to check out our own London
Scene.
Movies
Empire
On-Line is a good movie resource, with news
and a huge number of reviews. The Odeon
chain has recently renovated their site, and you can
buy tickets online.
Music
Groovy
Mix has comprehensive news and reviews, MP3
is the free music pioneer, and Live
365 is web radio from across the world.
News
If you prefer your news online, the best sites include
those of the BBC,
the Telegraph,
the Times,
and the Guardian.
Official Sites
The official government websites that may be of interest
include those of the Foreign
Office and the Home
Office.
On-Line Games
Gamesters might want to check out the Zone,
Gameplay,
or Barry's
World for free games.
On-Line Shopping
www.thekiwistore.com
for packages of New Zealand made products to your
door. Our preferred partner see
page.

UK shopping portals range across all retail sectors,
with big names such as Tesco's
and Marks
and Spencer being prominent. Fashion stores
with good sites include Gap,
Nike,
Next,
and FCUK.
Sport
There are dozens of top sports sites featuring British
competitions and teams. Cricinfo
is a useful cricket website, Planet
Rugby keeps rugby fans happy, while the Wimbledon
site is also very good. Other top sites include Football
News, Sportal,
and F1i.
Also visit our Lords
and Premiership
pages for cricket and football links.
Travel
Our site is of course full of links to good travel
sites, and we can recommend:
Lastminute
for late deals, Cheap
Flights for air deals (see our Cheap
Airline Guide as well), Total
Journey and Virgin
for comprehensive travel information.
Rough
Guides, Lonely
Planet, and Fodors
offer guides to the world's destinations, and other
travel advice.

Tube, Streetmap
for maps and directions, British

for rail network information. See our Airports
guide to flight travel links.
What's On
There are quite a few events portals, with up-to-date
details on what's on in and around the UK and Europe.
What's
On When has a world-wide database, Days
Out UK offers discount vouchers, while
What's On Stage is the London theatre news
and offers portal. For buying tickets to events and
shows, the Ticketmaster
site is one of the most popular online booking agents.
