Arriving By Train
In excess of 50,000 visitors to the UK arrive by
train each day. The bulk travel on the controversial
Eurostar service, which operates to and from
the principal European destinations of Paris and Brussels.
Travelling at up to 300 kmh, Eurostar journeys
average 3 hours between Paris and London, slightly
longer on the Brussels route. The only train in the
world to travel under an expanse of water the size
and depth of the Channel, Eurostar terminates at
London's Waterloo Station.
Eurostar tickets for London can be purchased at Brussels'
Midi Terminus or Paris' Gare du Nord. The service
is popular (particularly from Paris), so it pays to
book ahead. You can pre-book through your travel agent
(an additional fee will probably be payable), on the
London phone service (see below) or directly from
the Eurostar
website.
Eurostar prices range from £99 one way in Standard
Class to £199 in First Class, although deals
are available. Both classes offer excellent facilities,
including access to a buffet car and bar.
Eurostar information and booking line: 0271 928 5100.
Other Train Services
For those visitors that arrive in the UK by ferry
from the Continent or Ireland, there are a range of

provided by Connex
SE.
