Oktoberfest - Munich Germany
The Munich Oktoberfest (September 20 - October
5) is quite simply the biggest and best Beer Festival
in the world. For sixteen days the Bavarian capital
plays host to beer lovers from around the world, with
food, funfairs, and unmistakably German entertainment
(oompah bands and folk dancing frauleins) thrown
in for good measure.
With 13 temporary beer halls supplementing such legendary
permanent halls as the Hofbrahaus, there is
little chance of going thirsty. Over 1 million gallons
of beer are consumed during Oktoberfest, served in
1 litre jugs known as steins.
Accommodation can be a nightmare to find in
Munich unless you book months in advance. A popular
option for those wanting to experience Oktoberfest
for themselves but without the hassle is an organised
tour.
